French Y12, headed by promoter Yohan Zaoui, did it again and won purse bids for the fight for the vacant EBU super welterweight title between German Abass Baraou (12-1) and Frenchman Milan Prat (17-0) with an offer for 120,000 Euro - which is serious money in this weight division and for a European title. Abass promoter Wasserman Boxing bid 75,305 Euro.

Abass vs Prat will go ahead November 19 on the same event that WBA super champ Arsen Goulamirian defends the title against Russian Aleksei Egorov.

Site is either Le Cannet or Paris.

There were no bidders for the fight for the vacant EU heavyweight between Hussein Mohamed and Agron Smakici.

The EBU will call for bids once again with September 12 as the deadline.

For those who have missed it Chris Billam-Smith (16-1) relinquished the EBU cruiserweight title last week to concentrate on bigger titles.

Frenchman Dylan Bregeon (12-2-1) remains the official challenger. He lost to Billam-Smith in 2021.

Soviet great Boris Lagutin has passed away at the age of 84. Lagutin won Olympic gold in 1964 in Tokyo and in 1968 in Mexico City, both times at light middleweight. He also won the European championships twice and the Soviet title six times. How many fights he had as an amateur is a matter of dispute but it appears to be a fact that he lost only eleven times in a career that lasted from 1955 through 1968. He never turned pro.
