Estelle Yoka Mossley once again set the tone for a family affair in the ring.

The 2016 Olympic Gold medalist from Paris remained perfect as a pro, scoring a 10-round decision win over Germany’s Verena Kaiser in their IBO title fight Friday evening (locally) at H Arena in Nantes, France.

Yoka Mossely boxed well for the most part though was forced to make a defensive adjustment in the opening round. Cologne, Germany’s Kaiser connected with a straight right hand in a round which otherwise saw Yoka Mossley bounce on her toes and land combinations.

The quick fix resulted in more dominant sequences for Yoka Mossely in the ensuing rounds The unbeaten lightweight pumped her jab, followed often by right hands and a subsequent jab before moving out of harm’s way before Kaiser had a chance to set her feet.

Kaiser enjoyed her best sequence of the fight in round five, connecting with a straight right hand. Yoka Mossely overcommitted on a combination, not finishing with a jab as she left her chin in the air for a counter shot.

Yoka Mossely heeded the advice of  her corner, boxing far more effectively in rounds six and seven. The quick momentum shift came with Yoka Mossely’s husband, unbeaten heavyweight and fellow 2016 Olympic Gold medalist Tony Yoka standing at ringside after having watched the previous rounds from his dressing room ahead of his main event. Yoka Mossely utilized lateral movement, working her jab and forcing Kaiser to follow her around the ring.

Kaiser did her best to cut off the ring in round eight, with Yoka Mossely able to adjust and land in combination. Kaiser was clipped by a jab and right hand, forcing her on the defensive as Yoka-Mossely increased her offensive output.

With the fight seemingly well in the bag, Yoka Mossely hardly sat on her lead. The 28-year old worked the body in round nine, fighting more on the inside and with her hands down. Kaiser did her best to capitalize, only for Yoka Mossely to move about the ring in making her opponent frequently lunge and miss.

Kaiser dug deep to provide a dramatic finish in the 10th and final round. The superior ring IQ of Yoka Mossely disallowed that to take place, with the local favorite working the ring to cap a brilliant boxing performance.

Yoka Mossely improves to 9-0 (1KOs) with the win, registering the second defense of her IBO lightweight title in the process. Kaiser falls to 14-2 (6KOs), snapping a four-fight win streak.

The bout served as the chief support to the headlining clash between Paris-bred 2016 Olympic Gold medalist Tony Yoka (9-0, 7KOs) and Joel Tambwe Djeko (17-2-1, 8KOs), a Belgian heavyweight based out of England. The show marks the third straight shared by husband and wife.
