Joseph George (10-0) and Marcos Escudero (10-1) will finally renew acquaintances on Saturday night. Their 10 round bout is part of a Showtime tripleheader that will take place at the Mohegan Sun in a setting without fans. They were originally scheduled to battle on March 18th but that date was lost due to the covid-19 pandemic.

Angelo Leo takes on Tramaine Williams in a reshuffled main event for the vacant WBO super bantamweight title and Raeese Aleem faces Marcus Bates in the co-feature bout.

George and Escudero first fought last November in a bout George won by controversial spilt decision that was part of Showtime’s ShoBox series.

Escudero’s new trainer Kevin Cunningham believes his fighter was the victim of a bad decision and fully expects him to extract revenge on August 1st.

“We have been preparing for this fight since the end of January. I’ve watched their fight at least ten times and at no point did I see George winning,” Cunningham told BoxingScene.com.

“We are extremely grateful to get the opportunity to rectify the blemish on Marcos’ record. I think things worked out perfect in terms of the fight being postponed. I’ve had six months to tweek and add a few new winkles. Marcos has had great sparring with his stablemates Andre Dirrell and Steve Geffard. He’s in tremendous shape and the strategy and game plan are in place. We’ve come to Connecticut for one thing only, the big pay back!”
