Mexico's Erik "El Terrible" Morales likes big challenges, and for his choice of opponent for the upcoming fight for the super lightweight world title of World Boxing Council (WBC), he didn't hesitate in selecting the knockout artist Lucas Matthysse of Argentina. The fight takes place on Saturday September 17th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

"We had a number of opponents to select and we chose Matthysse. He is a younger fighter, strong, but with my technique and years of experience we will overcome him. These factors are decisive when we are in the ring. I will show that I am one of the best in the world," said Morales during an appearance on the program "Let's Go All," which is broadcast on Radio Belgrano (AM 950) Mondays through Fridays at 8 PM (Argentina).

"When I selected Marcos "El Chino" Maidana, they told me I was crazy, but I did a great job. Taking the first round, where I hurt my eye, I did a great job afterwards. And now Matthysse's people are also wonder why I selected them? I think we'll make history."

When comparing Maidana and Matthysse, Morales said:

"It is important to know that I will face a cleaner fighter. That fight will be cleaner. He's going to try to hurt us with clean shots. People will enjoy a fight involving a very strong fighter and one who has experience. People will see a very emotional fight."

"Maidana is a very dirty fighter. That worried me a lot. He used very dirty punches. Matthysse throws cleaner blows. So I have to worry about his technique rather than worrying about illegal blows," he recalled about his encounter with "El Chino ".

Initially, the rival of Morales was to be the Argentinean Jorge Rodrigo "Hyena" Barrios and many have written that a switch to Matthysse has hurt Morales' chances to win. However, "El Terrible" rejects these views:

"I am very happy for what was done in the last fight. Many people, especially in the U.S., did not think I had the ability after a two year layoff. For the next fight I'll do a better job."

Morales also laughs when I said that Matthysse wants to "retire him from boxing" when they fight on the 17th:

"Hahaha. It is very funny. My last four opponents said the same thing."

He also threw a few darts at his countryman Jorge "Travieso" Arce, who designated himself as the first Mexican to win world title in four different weight divisions. Morales rejects the claims because some of Arce's titles were interim belts:

"The titles of the WBC does not have internships. I won the fights [for full] championships. "Travieso" Arce accumulates interim titles. I have nothing to worry about [in making history in September]," Morales said.
