In October, 2017 Erickson Lubin came up short in his attempt to win the WBC super welterweight title. Then champion Jermell Charlo caught the 23-year-old in the first round and stopped him.

Since then Lubin hasn't been very active, having fought only once. That fight took place last April when he stopped Silverio Ortiz in 4 rounds. He said that the plan is to become much more active in 2019.

"I want to get back in ASAP. I am going to get right back into the gym. I have been camping a very long time. I camped 8 weeks with Kevin (Cunningham) when we thought we were going to fight in October. I got into tremendous shape and then I just took a little time off for Thanksgiving and got right back into the gym so I have been in shape since last year. I am ready to fight," Lubin explained.

"I want to get back in the ring as soon as possible. If they line up a fight I want to get back in the gym with no time off. God willing I won't need any time off with injuries or anything else. I am definitely going to be active this year. I want to fight 4 or 5 times."

First on tap for Lubin is former champion Ishe Smith.  They will square off on February 9th in Carson, Calif. on the Gervonta Davis-Abner Mares Showtime televised under card.

After that Lubin hopes to get back to being in marquee fights and has his sites set on a rematch against Charlo.

"It is all on my trainer. He knows best but I definitely want the big fights. I am not not afraid to fight anybody. I definitely want the rematch with Charlo in the near future. It doesn't matter who I fight. I just want to be active in 2019 and I want a world title this year," Lubin told BoxingScene.com.
