Miguel Vazquez will remain in the May 28 headliner of Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on FS1, but now has a new opponent.

The former lightweight titlist was due to face Dominican Republic's Felix Diaz, but will now take on late replacement Erick Bone at Cowboys Dance Hall in San Antonio, Texas.

News of the late switch in PBC headliners was first made available during Tuesday's edition of PBC on FS1, although it came as a surprise to Diaz. The 2008 Olympic Gold medalist suffered an injury during a sparring session on Tuesday, but was awaiting medical feedback in hopes of still going through with the fight.

Apparently the decision was made for him to sit this one out and wait for the next available opening.

"We were honest and let the right people know of the situation," Jose Nunez, Diaz' manager informed BoxingScene.com on Tuesday evening. "He got hurt during sparring (on Tuesday), but went to the doctor and hoped that he would get some good news.

"I promised (the event handlers) that we'd let them know right away, but I guess they got a replacement already."

The new pairing is interesting in that it still matches boxers coming off of losses in their most recent respective performances. Diaz was hoping to rebound from his first career defeat, a highly questionable 12-round decision at the hands of Lamont Peterson last October.

It came less than two weeks after Vazquez (35-5, 13KOs) came up on the short end of a hotly contested 10-round decision in favor of Algenis Mendez, which also took place at Cowboys Dance Hall and airing live on FS1.

The loss was the second in a span of three fights for Vazquez, who conceded his lightweight title in a controversial split decision defeat to Mickey Bey in Sept. '14. Following the setback to Mendez, a team decision was made to have him compete at super lightweight.

Such a decision actually works in favor of his new opponent, as Bone (16-3, 8KOs) gets to fight at a weight class more befitting his frame.

The 27-year old from Ecuador has suffered losses in each of his last two starts. He moved up two weight classes to take on Shawn Porter in replace of an injured Roberto Garcia, suffering a 5th round knockout last March in the very first fight to have aired in the PBC on Spike series.

Bone (pronounced Bow-nay) offered a much better account of himself in his most recent start, coming up just short in a spirited 10-round welterweight scrap with Chris Algieri last December in Brooklyn, New York.
