Mexico's Elwin 'Pulga' Soto already has an opponent in place to defend the World Boxing Organization's junior flyweight championship on May 8 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

The contest would be part of the undercard to the super middleweight unification between Canelo Alvarez and Billy Joe Saunders.

According to ESPN Deportes, the opponent is former world champion Katsunari Takayama of Japan.

Canelo and Saunders will unify the belts of the World Boxing Association, World Boxing Council and World Boxing Organization as part of an evening expected to attract over 60,000 fans at the venue.

The contest will see Soto make his first ring appearance under the co-promotional banner of Matchroom Boxing and Zanfer Promotions.

'Pulga' Soto, 24-years-old, has a record of 18-1 with 12 knockouts. He has been a champion since June 2019 and has made two successful defenses under the WBO.

Takayama has been a multiple time minimumweight champion, and now he will look for the opportunity to capture the junior flyweight belt.

The Japanese challenger is 37-years-old and has a record of 32-8 with 12 knockouts.

It is also expected that Hiroto Kyoguchi, another junior flyweight titlist, will join the undercard.

Soto must beat Takayama in order to qualify for a unification with Kyoguchi.

In 2014, Takayama had a Fight of The Year battle against the Mexico's Francisco 'Chihuas' Rodriguez. He walked away from boxing in 2016, but last year he made a decision to unretire and returned with victory.
