Ellis Hopkins made a successful start to her professional career.

The 20-year-old took on the experienced Borislava Goranova on Saturday night, exclusively live on Sky Sports’ socials.

Hopkins got her maiden outing in the paid campaign out of the way at the AO Arena in Manchester, as part of the supporting cast to an Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing card being broadcast on Sky Sports and DAZN.

‘The Gypsy Queen’, as she’s been nicknamed, got the victory on the referee John Latham’s scorecard at the end of four rounds, outpointing Bulgaria’s Goranova by 40 points to 36.

Hopkins represented England for a number of years in the vest and headguard, winning numerous accolades such as the Youth National Championship and a Tri Nations Silver medal in 2017.

She will be hoping to be as active as possible in her opening year as a pro after inflicting the 66th defeat in Goranova’s 81-fight career.

"It was a good performance, I got going in the last two rounds," Hopkins told Matchroom. "I'm just glad to get the first one out of the way, and on such a big platform. I couldn't be more thankful to Matchroom and MTK for giving me the opportunity.

"She was tough, you can tell she's experienced by the way she knew how to hold on every time I caught her. Becoming the first ever female from the travelling community to turn professional is a very big achievement and I hope I can inspire more young girls to do the same.

"It's the perfect time to turn over, women's boxing is going from strength to strength at the moment. I just want to get as many fights under my belt as I can this year and next year we'll push for titles."
