LAS VEGAS – Elijah Garcia took advantage of the exposure he received Saturday.

The 19-year-old super middleweight prospect dropped and stopped Cruse Stewart in the second round of an eight-rounder Showtime streamed on its YouTube channel as part of the Frank Martin-Michel Rivera undercard. Phoenix’s Garcia (13-0, 11 KOs) knocked down Stewart with a left hand and referee Robert Byrd stopped their fight at 1:33 of the second round at The Chelsea inside The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.

Stewart (8-2, 6 KOs), of Maple Grove, Minnesota, lost by knockout for the first time in 10 professional fights.

Garcia wobbled Stewart with a left hand and quickly followed up with another hard left that sent Stewart to the canvas with 1:41 to go in the second round. Stewart got off his gloves and knees in time to beat Byrd’s count, but he stumbled in the opposite direction and Byrd stopped their fight.

Stewart protested, but Byrd had little choice other than to halt the action once Stewart failed to keep his balance.

Byrd, meanwhile, officiated the final fight of his 41-year career. The Nevada-based Byrd has been a professional referee since 1981 and worked more than 100 championship matches.

In the bout before Garcia’s knockout, Cuban bantamweight Joahnys Argilagos beat Mario Hernandez unanimously in their four-rounder. Argilagos won by the same score, 39-37, on all three cards.

Argilagos improved to 9-1 (4 KOs). Hernandez (10-4-1, 3 KOs), of Santa Ana, California, has lost three fights in a row, all by unanimous decision.

Argilagos went down near a neutral corner in the third round, but referee Kenny Bayless ruled that it was a result of Hernandez hitting him behind his head. Argilagos cracked Hernandez with a right uppercut, which appeared to be the hardest punch landed in their bout, just as the bell sounded to conclude the second round.
