2012 London light heavyweight gold medalist Egor Mekhontsev (7-0, 6 KOs) will most probably meet his toughest career opponent on March 14 at the Civic Auditorium in Glendale, California.

“We’re still making a decision regarding Egor’s next opponent on March 14," said his manager Vadim Kornilov to R-Sport. “A decision will be made in several days, but the chances are high that he will face Yusaf Mack. We’re presently negotiating with Team Mack. The fight – if ever – will be scheduled for eight rounds, and it’ll be a regular, non-title collision."

Mekhontsev, 30, is also a 2009 world and 2008/2010 two-time European gold medalist for Russia. Mack, 35, started his career going 22-0-2 until April 2006, but is just 9-8 since then. Mack fought twice for major titles, being stopped in eight by IBF light heavyweight champion Tavoris Cloud in June 2011, and then again in three by super middleweight stalwart Carl Froch in November 2012. Mack is 0-3 since the latter defeat, losing to 17-7-1 Cory Cummings in his latest collision.
