On Friday night highly regarded prospect Edwin Sandoval (1-0) will fight for the second time as a professional when he faces Lyonell Kelly at the Chumash Casino in Santa Ynez, Calif. Rustam Nugaev faces Denis Shafikov in the ESPN televised main event which is an IBF lightweight eliminator.

The 21-year-old Sandoval made his pro debut on April 24th when he stopped Ramon Gamboa in three rounds in Tijuana, Mexico. Sandoval said that he doesn't like to grade his own performances but felt that he performed well.

"It was a decent performance. I will be hard on myself. I give myself a 4 (laughing). I did well. I did everything I had to do but I felt I should have kept my composure a little bit more. I don't really like to rate myself. I will let other people do that," Sandoval explained.

The Los Angeles resident participated in the World Series of Boxing and feels that he has a leg up on his opponents after facing fighters with elite amateur backgrounds. He expects to be sharper in this fight than he was in his pro debut.

"I am going to be more clear in this fight and be more precise with my punches. I already had some experience because I was in the World Series of Boxing and it is actually harder because I fought very talented fighters. Guys who were Olympians, European champions, good fighters. Come August 15th I just need to use my jab and go to the body, keep doing what I have been doing. The most important thing for me is just to keep getting more comfortable in the ring. The more comfortable I am, the better I will do," said Sandoval.

Sandoval said that he had a nice crowd in Tijuana to support him and expects even more of his friends and family to make the the drive to the Chumash Casino which is north of Santa Barbara.

"I had a cool little crowd in Tijuana and we will see who comes on the 15th. I will have some people there.  They are going to see an explosive Edwin Sandoval. My training camp was good. I had great sparring and I stopped a kid in one of my sparring sessions.   I've been looking good and I feel great. As long as my mind is straight the sky is the limit," Sandoval told BoxingScene.com
