Edwin Palomares' pressure was just too much for Carlos Ornelas on Saturday night in Mexico City.

The determined Mexican featherweight wore down Ornelas, dropped him with a body shot in the fifth round and stopped him in that round. Mexico's Ornales never figured out how to fend off Palomares in the third fight ESPN televised as part of the Emanuel Navarrete-Uriel Lopez undercard from TV Azteca's Studios.

The 24-year-old Palomares improved to 13-3-1 and recorded his fourth knockout. The 25-year-old Ornelas (25-3, 14 KOs) lost by technical knockout for the third time as a pro.

A right that seemingly grazed Ornelas' body made him take a knee with 48 seconds left in the fifth round. Ornelas reached his feet, but his trainer stepped up on the ring apron and called for an end to their scheduled 10-rounder.

Palomares landed various punches to Ornelas' head and body early in the fourth round. A tiring Ornelas kept throwing punches, but he couldn't stop Palomares from coming forward.

A straight right hand by Palomares stunned Ornelas just before the fourth round concluded.

Palomares backed Ornelas into the ropes early in the third round, when they traded flush punches each fighter took well. Palomares' pressure continued to put Ornelas in vulnerable positions throughout that third round.

Palomares' right hand backed Ornelas into the ropes with about 30 seconds remaining in a second round in which both boxers landed hard punches.

Ornelas' left hand backed up Palomares with just over a minute to go in the first round. Palomares came back several seconds later to land a right uppercut that made Ornelas think twice.

Palomares also caught Ornelas with a clean left hook just before the opening round ended.
