Edgar Ortega dug deep to grind out a hard-fought majority decision win over Daniel Rosario in their welterweight battle Friday evening at Salon Jose Cuervo in Mexico City, Mexico.

Scores were 98-92 and 97-93 in favor Ortega, with the third judge viewing the fight a draw at 95-95. The bout served as the summer season finale of

Boxeo Telemundo.

The 10-round welterweight scrap was hard-fought by both fighters, with neither definitely gaining an edge for very long. The competitive nature of the fight brings into question a tally of 98-92, but both fighters left the ring feeling like they both had their say.

Rosario started out well, seeming to build an early lead though clearly affected by his opponent's power, despite boasting the glossier record and suggested power edge.

Ortega rocked the visiting Puerto Rican in round six, though the sequence was short-lived and hardly threatening to produce a knockout ending. It was enough to ride a second-half surge all the way to the finish line, including another staggering of Rosario in the 10th and final round to preserve victory.

The win is Ortega's 10th straight after having suffered the lone loss of his career two years ago in this very same venue.

Rosario suffers the first loss of his young career, falling to 8-1 (7KOs).
