Edgar "The Chosen One" Berlanga (15-0, 15 KO) is convinced that a big win next weekend will give him heavy consideration for "Prospect of the Year."

Berlanga will look to extend his streak of first round knockouts to a sweet 16, when he faces Ulises Sierra on December 12.

“I want to end 2020 on a high note. If they choose me as the best prospect of 2020, that will open the doors for bigger things next year,” Berlanga told Carlos Gonzalez. "[Next year they] will realize that we are building something special."

Berlanga, 23-years-old, has garnered attention within boxing circles for his devastating punch.

Since making his pro debut in 2016, the hard-punching Puerto Rican fighter has won every bout by way of a first round knockout - placing him at number four on the all-time list. Sitting at number three is Edwin Valero, who won his first 18 fights by knockout in the first round.

Berlanga's reputation has become a problem for promoters when it comes to finding opponents.

“It was necessary to pay something additional to Ulises to have accept the fight. I don't know if it's a sign that he's scared, but it's definitely a weakness. I am sure that for next year other tests will come and, perhaps, a world title fight," said Berlanga. "The time will come when they won't be able to walk away and they will have to face me."

The event on December 12 take place at the MGM Grand's Conference Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Former WBO featherweight champion Shakur Stevenson will headline the card against Toka Kahn-Clary. Also, Berlanga's countryman Felix Verdejo will be in action.

“It will be a great night for Puerto Rico. I am sure that we will give [Puerto Rico] great victories because the island deserves it after so many things that people have gone through this year, especially because of the pandemic,” Berlanga said.
