Edgar Berlanga might be in the infancy stages of his career but the 25-year-old is wholeheartedly convinced that he should be regarded as a megastar. As the Puerto Rican native continues on his upward trajectory, he’ll do so under a different promotional banner.

After spending the first part of his career showing off his skills on ESPN with Top Rank, the super middleweight contender changed promotional outfits. Going forward, Berlanga will now look to take his career to the next level under the watchful eye of Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing.

Ultimately, Berlanga’s first impression to his new suitors will come on June 24th, in New York’s Madison Square Garden. Quietly, Berlanga (20-0, 16 KOs) has done his best to remove distractions from his circle as he places all of his attention on Quigley. Still, even with Berlanga promising that he isn’t overlooking the fringe contender, he’s flirting with the idea that a gigantic clash against Canelo Alvarez could be on the horizon.

Recently, the pound-for-pound star successfully defended his undisputed throne against John Ryder this past weekend in his hometown of Guadalajara, Mexico. Next up for the 32-year-old, if the decision were solely his, would be a rematch against Dmitry Bivol. Of course, the two tangoed last year with Alvarez coming out on the losing end.

Since becoming a household name and attraction, Alvarez (59-2-2, 39 KOs) has routinely sold a high volume of pay-per-views. Berlanga, with his eyes filled with money bags, believes that Alvarez should consider a showdown against him sooner rather than later.

In addition to believing that his skills match up nicely with Alvarez, Berlanga is convinced that from a financial standpoint, both he and Alvarez could make wonderful music together.

“My focus is June 24th,” said Berlanga on his social media account. “But if me and Canelo fought, easily we’ll do over 1.5 million in PPV buys.”
