Eastern Europe was a busy fight scene this past Saturday. Club shows, which were held in Russia and Poland, featured some formerly rated fighters and rising prospects.

In Inowroclaw, Poland, super welterweight Damian Jonak has further increased his almost perfect record by beating Belgian import Ayoub Nefzi (23-5-1) with a unanimous decision over ten rounds. Nefzi was cut after an accidental headbutt in round one, and then cuts were opened twice more on him during the fight as Jonak was using his head quite dangerously. The Polish fighter was a better boxer too, and in round four he dropped Nefzi with a solid right hook. Scores of the fight were: 99-91, 97-92, and 97-93 – all for Jonak.

With this win Jonak improved his record to very solid 39-0-1, with 21 KOs. He has been ranked by both the WBC and the WBA before his forced period of inactivity in 2014 and a transition from Andrzej Wasilewski and Piotr Warner to Mariusz Grabowski of Tymex Boxing Promotions. Jonak’s best wins came with unanimous decisions over Jose Luis Cruz (in 2010), Alex Bunema (in 2011), Jackson Osei Bonsu (in 2012) and Bradley Pryce (in 2014). His only blemish in the resume – a draw – happened in his bout with solid fellow prospect Mariusz Cendrowski in 2009.

On the same card, promoted by Grabowski, super featherweight Krzysztof Cieslak (22-6, 7 KOs) was soundly upset by little-known Romanian Oszkar Fiko (12-11, 9 KOs), who scored a technical decision in the sixth and final round: 58-57, 57-58, 59-57.

Other scores:

Ewa Brodnicka (8-0, 2 KOs) UD 6 Monica Gentili (4-3, 1 KO): 80-73, 77-76, 78-75

Michal Zerominski (8-2, 1 KO) UD 6 Ivo Gogosevic (10-10-1, 5 KOs): 60-54 x3

Featherweight Andrey Bogdanov (20-1-1, 7 KOs) acquired a vacant minor World Boxing Union’s 126lb title with a close but convincing unanimous decision over tough Mexican Naciff Castillo (17-6-2, 5 KOs) in a scheduled twelve-rounder. The event was promoted by Igor Sudelainen in the northern Russian city of Uchta.

On the same card, light heavyweight Sergey Gorokhov (5-1, 5 KOs) continued his kayo streak, when his Tanzanian opponent Pascal Ndomba (15-7-2, 13 KOs) retired in his corner after two complete rounds. Also, 20-year old super middleweight Igor Selivanov moved to 6-0, 5 KOs, with the second-round stoppage of badly faded veteran Marat Khuzeev (22-10-1, 10 KOs).

Other results:

Murad Dalkhaev (4-5, 2 KOs) UD 6 Igor Makoedov (1-2)

Erzhan Zalilov (1-0, 1 KO) TKO 4 Vladislav Sagalakov (3-13, 2 KOs)

Former world-rated super bantamweight Andrey Isaev (26-5, 8 KOs) of Belarus experienced little problems in eight round of drubbing against travelling journeyman Ravil Mukhamadiarov, whose record reads now as 12-59-2, with 10 KOs. Scores were: 80-72, 80-72, and 79-73, and the fight was held in St. Petersburg, Russia, under Alexey Osokin’s promotion.
