Daniel Dubois believes ‘suffering’ during his training camp in a Spanish mountain range has prepared him to snatch Oleksandr Usyk’s world heavyweight crown.

Dubois did the majority of his preparation for Saturday’s clash in Sierra Nevada, a region located around 2,500 meters above sea level, and underwent weeks of grueling training.

It also involved flying a number of sparring partners into the country and Dubois suggested it was akin to the days when Wladimir Klitschko would set up shop in an Austrian hideaway called Stanglwirt.

“Yeah it felt like that,” said Dubois of the Klitschko comparison.

“It’s all happening around me and I’m just in it and enjoying it. The training and everything went to plan and I’m just ready to rumble now.

“When these people come to spar, I am a target for them. Everyone is in the same division, and everyone is in it for the same thing.

“But I’ve got the opportunity now, I’m right on the doorstep to go in there and snatch it and I’m ready for it.

“I’ve suffered, I’ve done all the suffering now that I need to do, and I’m ready to go.”

This will be Dubois’ first fight since leaving his former coach Shane McGuigan, who still trains his talented sister Caroline.

But he insists his link up with the experienced Don Charles, the man behind the decision to take their training camp to Spain, will pay dividends.

Dubois said: “Handling southpaws is just knowing what to do. It’s a new experience for me, going away and training for that and I feel it’s going to pay off. I’ve got great people in my corner, Don Charles, and whatever it is I’m listening to it and I can see it’s working.”
