Nonito Donaire was unsuccessful in his attempt to beat Cuban sensation Guillermo Rigondeaux in their Super Bantamweight showdown on April 13th. It was a tough loss for the Filipino Flash as most felt he was simply dominated for most of the fight.

Many champions want to right their wrongs and Donaire is no exception. Donaire was on the recent edition of BoxingScene Radio and he was asked if a rematch with Ringondeaux was a priority for him.

Donaire's promoter, Top Rank CEO Bob Arum, said the Filipino star may remain at 122 and target newly crowned WBC champion Victor Terrazas in October.

However, Donaire says getting down to 122 is very, very difficult and he would rather fight Rigondeaux in a rematch above the super bantamweight limit.

“Going down to 122 would be a disadvantage for me so I'll wait for them at 126. Or we can work out a deal in between where we can just fight with no belts or no nothing. We can just fight right there or even one of those catch weights. I don't want to take advantage of being the bigger guy or I don't want him taking advantage of me being the drained fighter. We definitely want to fight” Donaire would tell BoxingScene Radio.

Donaire announced he would be moving up to 126 pounds as making weight for the Rigondeaux fight was a bit difficult. Nonito has conceded to defeat and feels he made mistakes in the fight that cost him a victory.

“I know in my heart that he's not better than me in terms of speed and power. He out smarted me and that's something that hasn't been done in my career. I've always listened to my corner. I've always done things and I've always studied. But in this fight, I never studied the fight and that's one thing I have to go back on. It's not taking anything lightly and I just got to go train and everything that transpired in that fight was due to my mistake which was to study. I was in physical tip top shape but mentally I just didn't really care much of what he had to offer and that was a mistake that I made. And going from this point on I'm going to learn to study every fighter and learn their style and their ways of fighting. I think it will be easier for me” shared Donaire.

Donaire had right shoulder surgery last Friday. The shoulder was an injury he cited after losing his last fight, and said it had been a nagging injury. With Donaire being sidelined for several months, a rematch with Rigondeaux may not be in the immediate future.
