On November 2, 2006, Top Rank is presenting a fight card from Youngstown, Ohio, featuring their 160-pound prospect Kelly Pavlik fighting in his hometown. On the under-card, another young and strong middleweight prospect, Don “Da Bomb” George looks to steal the show and continue on what he hopes is a career with unlimited possibilities.

“I have a lot of built up rage for this fight and I am ready to explode in Youngstown. I’m going to execute (opponent) Julio Jean and give the fans a great show. Youngstown is going to be privileged to see me fight and I’m going to leave them wanting more,” said Donovan George from his home base of Chicago, Illinois.

George has the kind of bravado, fighting style and power that makes fans go crazy. He is not only a fighter, but also considers himself to be an entertainer and always looks to put on a performance for all to witness. “Not to toot my own horn, but I’m a young Irish/Greek kid with striking good looks. I could have done anything in sports as I’m a great athlete, but boxing is what I love the most. My picture is on the internet (Cestusmanagement.com) so everyone can see just how good looking I am and know that I’m going to be the face of boxing.”

Still, “Da Bomb,” who is a puppy in the sport having fought just ten professional fights, is a long way from being “the face of boxing.” He is currently trained by his father Pete George, who has no prior professional experience.

One would say that there has to be concerns with that as Donovan is at a point in his career in which learning how to fight is more important than knocking people out. George had this to offer regarding that situation, “My father and I are students of the game and he is always learning new things about boxing and training. We have contact with other trainers in Chicago and go to different gyms and take advice when we feel it helps us. My father is a very smart guy and he will do everything in his power to make sure that I am progressing.”

Even though there may be questions about the tutelage which the young George is receiving, one thing that cannot be doubted is his dedication to be successful in the hardest of sports. Donovan, at age twenty-one, is already making the kinds of mental and physical sacrifices needed to become a world class fighter. His frame-of-mind is one that anyone who loves boxing has to get excited about.

“I don’t know too many fighters that train three times a day and I definitely don’t know many twenty-one-year-old guys who are home and in bed early. While my friends are out having a good time, I’m training or home watching fight footage because I know that there will be time for that a lot later in life. Right now, I eat, sleep and dream boxing.”

George continued, “I’m already getting so excited man that after this interview I’m going to have to do some pushups and run. Boxing is all that burns inside me. I want to see blood! I want blood to be all over my gloves always and I want all the glory. I’m selfish like that as all of those things are what motivates me to get up everyday and train like an animal. And I really want to make it and see my name in big, bright lights.”

In closing, George had this message: “On November 2, I’m going to arrive to Youngstown and execute Julio Jean. I’m going to use all of his liabilities and as soon as the pain comes, he is going to quit. I can’t wait for the fans in Youngstown to witness the fight as they are going to fall in love with me. I’m going to have the women there screaming my name and they will not be able to wait to see “Da Bomb” again. The people of Youngstown deserve to see a future world champion in action so I’m going to give them great entertainment.”
