Halle an der Saale, Germany - German light heavyweight Dominic Boesel (30-1) stopped Swede Sven Fornling (15-2) 1.12 into the eleventh round to win the IBO title and the vacant WBA interim crown as well.

It was a tough fight for both but the sharper punches came from Boesel while Fornling wasted a lot of energy punching air and Boesel´s guard.

Fornling was floored late in the second but it was more of a slip than anything else but it was ruled a knockdown.

In the tenth Boesel clipped Fornling coming in with a heavy right and Swede, cut around the left eye on the bridge of the nose, was visibly stunned and retreated for the first time in the fight.

In the eleventh Boesel hurt Fornling with a barrage and as Sven tried to hold on - Boesel pushed him away and Fornling fell. He should have been given a count but instead the referee ordered the fight to continue and by now Fornling was finished and Boesel followed up and referee Jean Robert Laine stopped the fight with the soon to be ex-champ going down in his own corner.

Fornling left the ring before the result was announced and looked very wobbly as he walked out and he was unable to give any comments.

After ten it was scored 97-92 twice and 96-93 all for the new champion. BoxingScene also had it 97-92 for Boesel, who showed better boxing and tactical skills than his opponent. However, how well this will hold up against the likes of IBF, WBC champion Artur Beterbiev is a different problem.

Fornling is now on his way to hospital for a check up.

Super middleweight Stefan Haertel (19-1, 3 early endings) isn´t much of a puncher but he can certainly box as he picked apart Peruvian David Zegarra (34-4) in five rounds, dominating the fight more and more.

Zegarra retired between rounds and didn´t come out for the sixth due to what appeared to be a claimed hand injury. Haertel thus won the vacant WBO Intercontinental title.

Zegarra can certainly fight but is too small to compete at super middle and Haertel quickly got on top scoring with straight punches from both hands showing excellent timing but the power is missing and that will always be a problem when he steps in with the big boys.

The many early endings have left the show with a big gap and the main event is 45 minutes away.
