Last week, rumors began to circulate that former WBO middleweight champion Dmitry Pirog of Russia was planning to make a comeback.

That information does not meet in line with reality. The boxer's longtime promoter, Kirill Pchelnikov, called the fighter after noticing reports which had quotes that were attributed to Pirog.

The boxer denied the information.

"I spoke with Dmitry yesterday. The information that appeared is false,"said Pchelnikov.

It appears a few outlets were fooled by a couple of tweets from what may be a fake Twitter account. What's stranger is the fact that the tweets are two months old, so there is no reasoning on why outlets began reporting on the information only last week.

Pirog captured the championship of the World Boxing Organization (WBO) with a knockout of Daniel Jacobs in July 2010. In August 2012, the Russian was stripped of the WBO title for refusing to carry out a mandatory defense.

Pirog retired in 2012 at age 32 because of a back injury, which prevented him from fighting with Gennady Golovkin on HBO.  There was several attempts to resume training for a ring return, but his back continued to give him issues.

He walked away with a record of 20 wins, 15 of them by knockout.
