World Boxing Association (WBA) light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol will explore the possibility of a clash with Gilberto Ramirez of Mexico in 2021, according to the Russian boxer's manager Vadim Kornilov.

Bivol has been out of the ring since October of 2019, when he won a twelve round unanimous decision in a voluntary defense against Lenin Castillo. In March of the same year, he won a wide decision over Joe Smith.

Due to the coronairvirus pandemic, the unbeaten boxer was unable to see action in 2020 - but he's very focused to get much busier in the coming year.

One opponent who wants to face Bivol is top contender Ramirez, who captured a WBO world title at super middleweight and decided to move up in weight last year.

On December 18th in Texas, Ramirez returned for the first time since March of 2019, when he stopped Alfonso Lopez in the tenth round.

The fight should be easy enough to make, since Ramirez is a promotional free agent after parting ways with Top Rank.

Bivol is looking for a big fight - and Ramirez would fit that scenario.

“We plan to implement long-standing discussions about what we want to do next year and there will be discussions regarding this fight [with Ramirez]. I really hope that the situation with quarantine measures will stabilize by next year, and many plans are being implemented for this coming year,” Kornilov said to Igor Lazorin.

Bivol has 17 wins (11 by knockout) and not a single defeat. Ramirez has 41 wins (27 by knockout) and not a single defeat.
