Dillian Whyte will finally get his shot at becoming domestic king next month.

The Brixton heavyweight, who has already lost a challenge for the vacant British title once in his career to date, when he was stopped inside seven rounds by now-world champion Anthony Joshua last December, is slated to fight for the belt again.

Whyte (18-1, 14 KOs) looks set to challenge for one of the sport’s most prestigious prizes in a vacant capacity, live on Sky Sports.

According to the latest British Boxing Board of Control notice, Whyte will have Ian Lewison (12-2-1, 8 KOs), also of Brixton, in the opposite corner when the belt is at stake on October 7 at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland.

The fight will take place as part of the undercard to Ricky Burns’ mandatory defence of the WBA super-lightweight world title against Kiryl Relikh.

The news of the Board approving a Whyte fight for the domestic crown comes after they knocked back David Allen as a suitable opponent, before they ended up clashing in a fight for the vacant WBC International bauble in Leeds in July, which Whyte won on points.

Afterwards, it was understood that Matchroom Sport’s chief Eddie Hearn, who promotes Whyte, was planning on him facing Sam Sexton (23-3, 9 KOs) on the aforementioned Burns-Relikh card, but those plans fell through after Sexton, a former Commonwealth champion, suffered a hand injury.

Should all go to plan and Whyte come out victorious, Dereck Chisora appears to be waiting in the wings for a fight in late autumn/early winter.

Scotty Cardle’s British lightweight title defence against Kevin Hooper, which is to be promoted by Eddie Hearn, will also land on this card.

In other news, Jack Catterall has withdrawn from his proposed challenge for the British super-lightweight title against Tyrone Nurse.

Catterall, who was named the mandatory challenger to the 140-pound belt prior to Nurse’s victory over Tommy Coyle in Leeds in July, was most recently in action over eight rounds on August 12 when he took his record to 16-0 (9 KOs) with a points victory against Lukasz Janik in Lancashire.

Pat Magee will host the final eliminator showdown to the British cruiserweight title between Tommy McCarthy and Matty Askin on October 22 at Whites Hotel in Bolton.

A new date and venue are awaited from promoter Eddie Hearn for British light-heavyweight title clash between Hosea Burton and former super-middleweight world title challenger Frank Buglioni.

The pair had been set for action on September 24 at Manchester Arena, live on Sky Sports as part of the undercard to Anthony Crolla’s world lightweight title showdown against Jorge Linares, but ‘Wise Guy’ Buglioni pulled out earlier in the build-up after suffering a cut over the left eye in sparring.

A date and venue are also still awaited from promoter Eddie Hearn, who won the purse bids, regarding Callum Smith’s British super-middleweight title defence against Luke Blackledge.

Frank Warren won the purse bids to stage Chris Eubank Jr.’s latest British middleweight title defence against Tommy Langford and has placed it on October 22 at Cardiff’s Motorpoint Arena, as part of the same bill as Liam Williams’ Lonsdale belt defence against Dulwich’s Ahmet Patterson.

Bradley Skeete will also box on that card, defending his British welterweight title for the first time against Shayne Singleton.

At welterweight, John Thain versus Nathan Brough, on October 1 at Bellahouston Sports Centre in Glasgow, has now been sanctioned as an official eliminator, while Dale Evans will battle Mike Towell on September 29 in Glasgow in a final eliminator.

Meanwhile, Nisse Sauerland won the purse bids to stage the British middleweight title eliminator between Anthony Ogogo and Elliott Matthews. A date and venue for the clash are still awaited.

George Jupp has withdrawn from his proposed British super-featherweight title eliminator contest against Anthony Cacace, while the British Boxing Board of Control stewards are set to consider the mandatory challenger to the super-bantamweight title, which is currently held by former Super WBA world title challenger Jazza Dickens, at their next meeting.

The bantamweight belt, held by Ryan Burnett, will be on the line when the Belfast man takes on Ryan Farrag over 12 rounds at the ECHO Arena in Liverpool on October 15, while Farrag’s gym-mate and fellow Liverpulian, Kevin Satchell, withdrew from a British flyweight title challenge against Andrew Selby.

Boxing Scene understands Satchell is in line for a world title final eliminator.

With regards to the English titles, former British and Commonwealth super-bantamweight title challenger Josh Wale is set to face Ashley Lane in an eliminator for the belt a division south at 118lbs, with the winner expected to face Marc Leach in a final eliminator.

The clash between Wale and Lane is slated for October 1 at Doncaster Dome.

In the light-heavyweight division, Tom Baker has given up the belt, leaving the stewards to put Miles Shinkwin against Joel McIntyre out to purse bids for the vacant title. Those bids must be submitted by midday on Wednesday, October 12, with the contest taking place before January, 2017.

Ben Hall versus Sonny Upton has been ordered for the vacant English title at super-welterweight. The same as above, regarding purse bids, applies, while Sonny’s brother Anthony Upton will defend the English super-lightweight title against former custodian Joe Hughes after promoter Stuart Davies won purse bids. A date and venue for the clash are awaited.

Steve Goodwin will stage an eliminator for that belt, between Freddie Kiwitt and Anthony Hardy, on September 24 at York Hall in Bethnal Green, London, which is the same venue where Johnny Garton defends his welterweight title against Tyler Goodjohn this Saturday.

The winner of the Garton-Goodjohn clash must face John O’Donnell in a contest which will also be an eliminator for the British crown.

The middleweight belt, held by Lee Markham, will be up for grabs for Joe Mullender when the pair meet on November 26 at Brentwood Centre in Essex, as part of an Andy Ayling promotion, with the super-middleweight crown currently in the possession of Jahmaine Smyle, being contested against former footballer Leon McKenzie on November 12 at York Hall.

Stefy Bull will host Andy Townend’s next English super-featherweight title defence. Townend was stopped by Martin Joseph Ward for the vacant British crown on September 10 at London’s O2 Arena, but will return against Chris Conwell on November 19 at the Doncaster Dome.

Sean Davis has been ordered to defend his English super-bantamweight title against Martin Ward, with the BBBofC stewards deciding to put it out to purse bids. Those bids must be submitted by midday on Wednesday, October 12, with the contest taking place before January, 2017.

An eliminator for the above English super-bantamweight title has also been put out to purse bids, with the Board pitting Josh Kennedy against Lucien Reid.
