Hard Rock Hotel & Casino - Unbeaten super bantamweight prospect Diego De La Hoya (13-0, 7KOs) won an eight round unanimous decision over Giovannu Delgado (15-4, 9KOs), who in his previous bout dropped a ten round decision to another unbeaten prospect in Joseph Diaz. All three judges had it 79-73.

De La Hoya was move active, had the better arsenal and controlled the pace. Delgado had some minor moments in the contest, but never put together a big enough rally to turn the tide of the contest.

In a tough physical fight, Roy Tapia (11-1-2, 6KOs) suffered the first loss of his career by way of an eight round split decision to Erick Ruiz (15-4, 6KOs) in a super bantamweight contest. The scores were 77-75 for Tapia, 77-75 for Ruiz twice.

The action was close for most of the contest. Tapia had a minor edge, but it wasn't much. Ruiz really put some hurt on Tapia in the seventh with damaging punches to the head and body. Tapia's left eye was cut and swelling from the punishment and his right eye was swelling as well.

Both fighters were tentative at the start of the eight, before Ruiz started applying pressure and letting his hands go. Tapia came to life in the final minute, throwing combinations and using offense to push Ruiz back.

Super lightweight Alan Sanchez (17-3-1, 9KOs) shocked previously undefeated John Karl Sosa (13-1, 6KOs) with a sixth round knockout. Sosa went down three times in the sixth.

Sosa started well but he got drilled with a hard hook during the opening moments of the sixth, went down hard and never recovered. Sanchez never let him off the hook, appliying a lot of pressure and landing hard hooks to the head and body to score two more knockdowns. After Sosa went down for the third time, the referee waved off the fight.

Featherweight Horacio Garcia (30-1, 22KOs), who returns for the first time since his May decision loss to former world champion Hozumi Hasegawa, battered Raul Hidalgo (24-14) in two rounds. Garcia rocked Hidalgo and pressed him against the ropes in the third. Once he pinned him in, he unloaded with both hands until the referee jumped in.

Super middleweight prospect Jason Quigley (9-0, 8KOs) went the distance for the first time in his career, winning a four round unanimous decision over Marchristopher Adkins (6-2, 2KOs). The scores were 40-36, 40-36 and 39-37.

Quigley had all he could handle, he appeared to be a bit winded and suffered a decent cut above his left eye during the action. He was more active during the rounds and was able to land the more telling punches. Coming into the fight, Adkins had won his last six after losing his pro debut.

Super featherweight prospect Francisco Esparza (2-0), who is trained by former junior middleweight champion Fernando Vargas, won a four round majority decision over Miguel Angle aranda (0-1).
