Alex Dickinson improved his unblemished ledger in the North West on Saturday.

The heavyweight, trained at the Everton Red Triangle, is now undefeated in two.

Dickinson, who made his professional debut in Belfast back in June, was recently confirmed as an addition to the undercard of a world title fight.

And it was on that undercard, as part of the supporting cast to Joseph Parker’s bid to retain his WBO heavyweight crown against Hughie Fury, that the 30-year-old scored a second inside the distance win.

His hand was raised after two minutes and 11 seconds of the third round at the Manchester Arena after a thoroughly one-sided showing against Malden Manev.

Meanwhile, Jack Cullen ousted the overmatched Callum Ide inside the distance.

Cullen, who has had quite a bit of exposure of late, including an appearance on a BoxNation-aired card, was in total control before the referee called a halt to proceedings after two minutes and 18 seconds of the second round.

Yusuf Safa moved to 7-0 with a competent points victory over Simas Volosinas

And Lee Carter got the first win of his professional career against Blaise Mendouo. The referee scored it 40 points to 36 in the favour of the ‘Grenadier’, who was fighting for the third time in the paid code, alongside Mickey Ellison, who moved to 4-1.

Peter McDonagh may well have put himself in position for a big title fight.

The has been whispers that the ‘Connemara Kid’ could fight for the blue European belt.

And after a victory over Shayne Singleton at Manchester Arena, as part of the undercard to Hughie Fury’s challenge for Joseph Parker’s WBO heavyweight world title, it is an even stronger possibility.

Though nothing is at this stage concrete, McDonagh, at 39, has done his credentials no harm whatsoever after a close decision victory over Colne’s Singleton by 96 points to 94.

The pair clashed at the weigh-in on Friday and were forced to be separated by securing and, after the fight, McDonagh magnanimously extended his arm towards the loser, who swiftly pushed it to one side before storming back to the dressing room.
