Like everyone, Lou DiBella eventually wants to see a unification bout between Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua.  Both heavyweight champions have tall tasks ahead of them before such an international mega attraction could occur.

DiBella, has promoted every single WBC heavyweight title defense that Wilder (39-0, 38KOs) has had after winning the title in early 2015.

In his 7th title defense, Wilder will face off against undefeated Cuban challenger Luis Ortiz (28-0, 24KOs) on March 3rd at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, NY.

DiBella insists that Wilder has business to take care of with Ortiz on the 3rd of March before any thought of a clash with WBA, IBF, IBO champion Anthony Joshua, who has business of his own to handle with WBO titlist Joseph Parker on March 31st in Cardiff.

“I’m not even going to talk about that fight.  Nothing’s getting closer.  No one’s talking about anything.  The fight is going to happen if both guys keep winning,"  Dibella told ATG Radio.

“At the moment there is no fight scheduled.  There are no negotiations on-going or anything.  Let’s just focus and see the guys do what they got to do."

Wilder was originally scheduled to face Ortiz last year on November 4th.  Ortiz was removed from that bout do to testing positive for a banned substance.  Bermane Stiverne would be a last minute replacement and be knocked out by Wilder in the first round.

Ortiz was cleared by the WBC after it was determined that he had failed to list medication that he was taking on his pre-test paperwork.  He was fined and giving the greenlight to resume his career.

DiBella knows Wilder doesn’t have an easy task facing Ortiz in Brooklyn in March, this is why the full focus of both Wilder and himself is on the man known as “King Kong”.

“I think that Deontay Wilder took a huge challenge in King Kong Ortiz, a fight that he did not have to fight and have to make.  It was not a mandatory.  It’s not a unification.  It’s just the most difficult fight out there for him.  What we all thought was the biggest profile matchup he could do right now, consider that Joshua is fighting Parker and Tyson Fury is unavailable," DiBella said.

“I think it should be an interesting night.  I know Deontay has a bone to pick with Ortiz and wants to knock him out on March 3rd.

“Ortiz is a big skilled, technically sound, lefty, great Cuban amateur, one of the great amateurs in heavyweight history and he can punch.  A southpaw that can punch is a big danger.  I’m not looking past Luis Ortiz.  I don’t want to talk about the other guy right now."
