It is no secret that Filipino rising star Denver Cuello (31-4-6, 21KO's) have been waiting for a world championship crack for quite some time now. The 25 year old southpaw whose been given "The Excitement" monicker due to his fan friendly style, was closer than ever when he won the WBC Silver minimumweight title after dominating Ganigan Lopez of Mexico on May 19, 2012.

"I thank God for giving me the strength and opportunity to fight for another world title eliminator" said Cuello who was positioned as the #1 WBC minimumweight contender after blasting Lopez in 2. "I'm very happy to have a really good promotion (Canelo Promotions). They provide great support and they have plans for me".

Cuello is being poised to return on September 15 on Saul Alvarez' PPV undercard. Originally, Canelo Promotions and Cuello's manager, Aljoe Jaro wanted to fight for Kazuto Ioka's WBC and WBA strap. However, after Ioka's decision to vacate the WBC world title, there will be some change of plans.

"I feel both happy and sad. Sad because I really want to fight Ioka. Happy because I'm about to become a world champion without breaking a sweat" told Cuello. "We knew that he fought for the WBA belt because he will vacate the WBC world title at some point. We were actually expecting him to avoid me and now we're just waiting for the official announcement of my ascend to world champion" added Cuello.

After Ioka's move of vacating the title, Cuello's interest have been diverted to undefeated Wanheng Menayothin (23-0, 7KO's), siting him as a sturdy and tough champion. "I want to fight him because he's also a champion. He beat Filipinos before, including some of my friends. I want to avenge them, it will be a good fight".

"I have no problem making the 105lbs limit. I will eventually go up to 108 and I want Roman Gonzalez for my first fight at light flyweight. For now, Canelo Promotions wants to showcase my talent at 106, become the undisputed champion at the division. That is the plan".

Cuello at present has begun light training for his September ring return against a yet to be named opponent.
