Dennis McCann capped a productive 2022 campaign in style.

A third win on the year was posted by the 21-year-old southpaw, the latest coming in an eighth-round stoppage of Scotland’s Joe Ham. No knockdowns were scored but McCann was well in control, landing a volley of unanswered punches before referee Marcus McDonnell stopped the contest at 2:28 of round eight Saturday evening at The O2 in London.

McCann was entering his first scheduled twelve-round bout. As was the case in his previously scheduled ten-round outing with James Beech Jr. just four months ago, the unbeaten prospect didn’t need the extra allotted time to get the job done. Saturday’s BT Sport/ESPN+ televised fight struggled to find a second gear in the early going, though McCann was able to establish his preferred mode of attack in constantly landing with lead left uppercuts.

Ham (17-4, 6KOs) showed why he’d never been stopped in his previous twenty outings. The 31-year-old Scotsman stood directly in front of McCann but boasted a sturdy chin and plenty of resolve in absorbing his opponent’s power shots. Ham was forced to contend with a bloody nose, courtesy of a stream of right jabs from McCann.

Just as McCann was threatened with the proposition of fighting past the eighth round for the first time, he found a way to close the show. A jaw-rattling uppercut froze Ham in his tracks, fighting behind an earmuff defense as McCann pummeled him into the ropes. An ensuing barrage left Ham unable to respond or to properly defend himself, thus forcing the stoppage.

McCann advances to 14-0 (8KOs), picking up his second consecutive win inside the distance and third overall victory on the year.

Headlining the show, Zach Parker (22-0, 16KOs) and John Ryder (31-5, 17KOs) meet in an all-British super middleweight matchup with the division’s vacant interim WBO title at stake.
