Hairon Socarras not only dropped back down to featherweight for his next fight but has come in at nearly the lightest weight of his career for the occasion.

The 28-year old Cuban boxer from Miami came in at a fit and trim 125 pounds for his 10-round regional title fight versus defending champ Dennis Contreras, who weight right at the 126-pound divisional limit. The bout headlines Friday’s installment of Boxeo Telemundo, which airs live from KO Addiction Boxing & Fitness Center in Plant City, Florida.

Contreras (23-10-1, 21KOs) fights for the third straight time on the platform, having been matched aggressively in his previous outings.

The 28-year-old from Guadalajara, Mexico—who is managed by the ubiquitous Nelson Lopez Jr.—made a splash on the Telemundo circuit following the pandemic, beginning with an upset 5th round knockout of Belmar Preciado last August. The bout was easily the best of the year on the network, with Contreras playing the role of spoiler in his second straight fight.

His efforts were rewarded with a quick turnaround, returning just five weeks later where he stopped unbeaten Carlos Flores inside of six rounds last October. Both bout took place at Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimmee, roughly an hour from where Friday’s show will take place.

Socarras (23-1-3, 15KOs) appeared in supporting capacity to Contreras’ aforementioned win over Flores, scoring a knockout of his own. It came in the 3rd round of a mismatch versus Julio Buitrago, a made-to-order opponent to rebound from his lone career defeat in a 9th round stoppage at the hands of Ryan Walsh in October 2019.

The win over Socarras came in the junior lightweight division, with Socarras since settling back in at featherweight. His weight on Thursday is his lightest since weighing 124 ¾ pounds in a 10-round decision win over Jose Nieves in Aug. 2018.

Below are the weights for the rest of the card, with select pre-recorded bouts to air on the telecast.
