ATLANTIC CITY – Denis Douglin ruined Vaughn Alexander’s comeback Saturday night.

Douglin, a veteran from Marlboro, New Jersey, out-boxed the previously unbeaten Alexander and easily won their 10-round super middleweight match on the Sergey Kovalev-Eleider Alvarez undercard at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino’s Etess Arena.

One judge, Mark Consentino, scored each of the 10 rounds for the left-handed Douglin (100-90). Two judges, Lawrence Layton and Alan Rubenstein, scored nine of the 10 rounds for Douglin (99-91).

The 30-year-old Douglin (21-6, 13 KOs) had lost his previous two bouts – a technical decision to former WBC super middleweight champ Anthony Dirrell and a 10th-round technical knockout to current WBC super middleweight champ David Benavidez.

Against Alexander, however, he controlled the action throughout the 10 rounds and pulled off a mild upset. There weren’t any knockdowns during the fight and neither fighter appeared hurt.

The 32-year-old Alexander (12-1, 8 KOs), the older brother of former junior welterweight and welterweight champ Devon Alexander, had gone 7-0 since resuming his once-promising career in October 2016. The St. Louis native spent nearly 10½ years in a Missouri prison on armed robbery and assault convictions, and went 12 years between professional fights.
