Left-handed Brooklyn, New York, light heavyweight Denis Douglin (22-6, 14 KOs) of Las Vegas scored third-, fifth- and final-round knockdowns during a dominant sixth-round knockout and his second straight victory over Saul Roman (43-13, 35 KOs) of Mexico at the Aviator Sports Complex in Brooklyn, New York.

Trained by his mother, Saphya, and nicknamed “Momma’s Boy,” the 30-year-old Douglin, went heavy on left hands, digging them to the head and body throughout with the last being a body shot that felled the 38-year-old Roman for the 10-count at the 2:53 mark of the sixth.

“I felt like I should have done a little better. I gave myself a C-plus,” said Douglin, whose mother awarded him a “C” grade. “There’s a lot things I didn’t like, but we got the win, and that’s the most important thing. I’ll take some time off tomorrow and I’ll be back in the gym on Monday.”

In a scheduled six-round heavyweight bout, Baltimore native Cassius Chaney (14-0, 8 KOs) of New London, Connecticut, rose from a second-round knockdown to drop and stop left-handed Santino Turnbow (4-3, 3 KOs) of Cincinnati, Ohio, for a fourth-round knockout.

The 36-year-old Turnbow struggled to his feet only to be counted out at the 1:04 mark by referee Miguel Rosales, representing the third straight stoppage victory for the 31-year-old, 6-foot-6, 245 ½-pound Chaney.

Chaney battered Turnbow (6-foot-1, 232 ½) to the head and body along the ropes throughout the first round only to be floored by a looping, second-round left cross. But Turnbow was unable to finish Chaney, fading and being picked apart from range down the stretch.

In the opening bout, Ismael Villareal (4-0, 1 KOs), of Bronx, New York, scored a 43-second stoppage of Travis Nero (1-4, 1 KO), whom he out-weighed, 154 ½-to-150 ½.

The 21-year-old Villareal’s left hook floored the 31-year-old Norman, Oklahoma resident, who rose to his feet only for the referee waved an end to the fight.
