Aussie Heavyweight hope Demsey McKean has recently upped sticks and moved to the other side of the globe, with the towering terror now basing himself in the United Kingdom.

One of McKean’s first assignments was to go into camp with two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, who was preparing for last month's fight with Oleksandr Uysk. The ACE Boxing Group guided heavyweight opened up about his time in camp with AJ.

McKean said, “It was a really good experience joining the AJ (Anthony Joshua) camp. The whole team was really professional and the camp everything was really well done (in regards to how professional the setup was) and it ran really smoothly. They really are a friendly group of guys who make you feel welcome when you get into their group which makes the experience even more enjoyable.

“The coaches and AJ himself will help you out on the way in picking out little technical pointers on the bag, pads, or whatever it may be so they are bringing you on technically as well and anything they can help out with they will do.

"Overall, it was a really good experience as he is the biggest name in boxing and he is the world champion for a reason, so it was really good to get some good rounds with him and to enjoy the experience as he reached the end of his camp obviously with me coming to the UK a few weeks prior. So I'm going to use this experience and use it going forward with my career.”

The world ranked heavyweight with the WBO and IBF is now set to remain UK based, with McKean heading into camp for Dillion Whyte, who takes on Otto Wallin later this month

McKean discussed the decision to move base to the UK.

He said, “The reason why I came out to the UK is because I needed to expand and move out of Australia to get the exposure I need and to land some of those bigger fights I want. Australia is a little bit behind the UK due to the COVID restrictions, lockdowns and quite simply makes it quite difficult to get people into the country. It was quite hard for me to even leave the country because I needed to get different visas, exemptions, you name it, to leave the country.

“So that is why I'm here in the UK because I'm working alongside Matchroom Boxing & Eddie Hearn to try and land a fight. I will be fighting before December which is starting to already work itself out and looking at various opponents and different dates have been put forward by everyone involved so I am really confident in fighting before December.

“My team at ACE Boxing who have worked really hard to secure this opportunity for me, could not fly anyone into Australia as opponents, it was a true nightmare and a half. So we used our own initiative to move and base ourselves over here for the next six to twelve months or however long it takes to land some big fights over here.”
