Delvin Rodriguez is preparing for his bout against WBA Junior Middleweight champion Austin Trout which will take place this Saturday night at the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA and airing live on Showtime.

Rodriguez appeared on the most recent edition of BoxingScene’s official audio show The Boxing Lab to discuss the fight and also addressed some of the comments Trout made when he last spoke to BoxingScene at the Los Angeles kick off press conference.

Trout had told BoxingScene that he did not expect the fight to go the distance to which Rodriguez responded.

“I’m sure he’s trying to motivate himself and trying to talk a good game. Maybe he’s trying to psych himself out. Like I say, I don’t really talk that way. I know what I got to do and I do my stuff when I step in the ring” answered Rodriguez.

“That makes me feel even better because when a guy says something like that, if he really believes it, then once he steps in the ring he’s going to be very surprised. Once you get surprised in there it’s really hard to adjust, so I like that. I been [in] a lot of fights like that where they talk and talk and when I step in there, they feel so surprised that they don’t know what hit them”.

Both fighters have said they will box or brawl should the need arise and both guys have something in common going in to this fight; this is the biggest and most important fight of their careers up until now. Rodriguez doesn’t know if Austin will really try to back up his talk but he’ll be ready and expect this to be a great fight.

“I don’t know if he’s going to try go to me like he says, which I hope he does. I know it’s going to be a good fight because he knows I’m one of the toughest fighters that he has faced in his career. And I know he’s getting very well prepared just like myself. When two people like that meet in the ring a great fight can come out of it” expressed Rodriguez.
