James DeGale says he 'rooting' for long-time enemy George Groves to win the world title - so he can beat him next year at Wembley Stadium.

The IBF world super-middleweight champion is hoping his bitter rival beats Badou Jack on the Floyd Mayweather-Andre Berto undercard on Saturday night, to become the WBC equivalent.

And although DeGale always refers to him as 'Ugly Kid', he believes Groves has what it takes to become Britain's latest world champion.

"I want him to win," he told Sky Sports.

"Of course I don't like him and never will, but I want him to get a world title and set up that rematch, next summer, at Wembley Stadium.

"I think the British public want to see it. They all want to see DeGale-Groves II, especially me! I am rooting for him 100 percent!"

DeGale has now joined Carl Froch and fellow super-middleweight Callum Smith in wishing their rival good luck.

But 'Chunky', who was beaten by Groves on points in May 2011 and in the ABAs in 2010, sincerely believes Groves (21-2-KO16) is better than champion Jack (19-1-1-KO12).

"If I am honest this is the best chance he'll get of winning a world title because Badou Jack isn't the best," he said.

"He's a good fighter, but not what I count as an elite fighter so this is the best chance Groves will get to follow in my footsteps.

"I've actually been listening to a few of Ugly Kid's interviews and they are extremely confident he is going to take Jack out and - even I hate to say it - he is a better fighter than Badou Jack and has got the tools to beat him."

DeGale is expected to make an announcement about his first world-title defence soon but could not finish without a dig at the man he will never like.

"Badou Jack's best chance of holding on to that title is probably taking him into the second half of the fight," he said.

"Groves doesn't do the 12 rounds well... at all well."
