James DeGale has launched a stinging Twitter attack on Chris Eubank Jr after the latter was beaten by George Groves in a super-middleweight title fight on Saturday.

Groves prevailed by margins of 117-112, 116-112 and 115-113 on the judges' scorecards as he earned a place in the final of the World Boxing Super Series, despite suffering a suspected dislocated shoulder during the final round as Eubank launched a desperate onslaught.

Eubank – the son of former two-weight world champion Chris Eubank – was outclassed by Groves at the Manchester Arena and DeGale seemed to revel in the 28-year-old's performance.

"You are the biggest hype job I've never [sic] known," he tweeted. "You and your father going around telling people you are a killer! YOU should be very embarrassed.

"Now go crawl back under your rock."

DeGale – the 2008 Olympic middleweight champion – lost to Groves in his 11th professional fight in 2011.

Groves, who has fought in more big fights, used distance wisely to pick and choose his moments.

However, he appeared to have a shoulder injury at the end, which could hamper his preparation for the final of the World Boxing Super Series in June, against Callum Smith or Jurgen Brahmer.

Eubank was cut above the right eye in the third round from an apparent accidental clash of heads, and it bothered him for the rest of the fight.

He maintained his record of never being knocked down but when he took a knee in the 10th round Groves was frustrated there was no mandatory count.

Eubank's stamina was expected to be superior but he tired through the middle rounds and finished with a desperate flourish and careless abandon.

He also lost his IBO belt after the judges awarded Groves the decision.

Groves improved his record to 28-3 (20 KO) with his second defence of the WBA belt he took from Fedor Chudinov in May. Eubank suffered his second defeat in 28 fights.
