Declan Geraghty appears to have called time on his career as a professional boxer.

The super-featherweight was stopped by Archie Sharp at the end of last month.

Geraghty was winning his challenge for the latter’s WBO European title at the Royal Albert Hall in Kensington, London, before the champion uncorked a cracking left hook to render ‘Deco’ unconscious, exclusively live on BT Sport in the UK.

And after some consideration, it looks like the 29-year-old has made a final decision to hang up the gloves.

“I think it’s time to close this chapter and move onto the next step of my life,” Geraghty, the Dublin southpaw, wrote on social media on Friday. “No matter what, I have always wore my heart on my sleeve and never backed down from any fight and I’ve always travelled to the lions’ den for a fight.”

Geraghty leaves the sport having challenged for four titles and having boxed former IBF 130-pound world title challenger Jono Carroll twice as well as having shared the ring with ex-WBA International, European and Commonwealth champion James Tennyson.

“What kills me most is that the four lads I have lost to I truly believe I am the better boxer and I should have beaten them but things don’t always work out the way you want them to and that’s just life,” the 19-5 (4 KOs) man continued. “I want to thank everyone who came and supported me in my wars. Most boxers call them fans but I call the people who were there for me family.

“Thank you again for everyone’s support.”

Further details regarding Geraghty’s next move will be revealed in due course.
