Oscar De La Hoya, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, admits he was shocked while watching last Saturday's fight between Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin (36-0, 33KOs) and Kell Brook (36-1, 25KOs).

Brook, who still holds the IBF's welterweight title, moved up by thirteen pounds to take the fight at the middleweight limit of 160-pounds.

The smaller man was able to connect with some very good punches that were snapping Golovkin's head back. Brook suffered a fractured right eye socket in the second round and that eventually led to his trainer's decision to throw in towel during the fifth round.

Many were expecting Golovkin to roll right over Brook. Instead the fight was competitive - a scenario which De La Hoya did not expect.

De La Hoya's star fighter, Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (47-1-1, 33KOs), has a verbal deal in place to fight Golovkin in September of 2017.

"I was actually surprised by what Kell Brook brought to the table. I was shocked by the damage he inflicted on Triple G. I didn't expect that. You have a small welterweight who was hurting a full blow middleweight. It's happened before but I didn't expect it from Kell Brook. He did a great job, Kell Brook. He has a lot of heart and he'll fight another day. It was exciting to watch. I was actually entertained," De La Hoya explained to BoxingScene.com.

"Kell Brook did a tremendous job against Triple G. He gave him a little movement. He has skill Kell Brook. And guess what, Kell Brook is probably the first fighter that Triple G fought who has skills and he gave him trouble. I strongly feel that when Canelo fights him, it's going to be one heck of a fight."

Last Saturday's outcome, and Brook's success in the fight, will not influence De La Hoya to alter his course of action in staging the Canelo vs. Golovkin mega-bout.

"No, not at all. I have my plan on when I'm going to stage that fight. I can easily say that this fight won't take six to eight years to make like Pacquiao-Mayweather was made. This fight is going to happen very soon, relatively very soon. I cant wait to make it happen," De La Hoya said.

"We have to wait and see if Canelo wins first on Saturday night, and then we'll sit down and take it from there. But first thing is first. I'll tell you one thing, that fight is going to happen very soon."
