According to Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya, United States President Donald Trump refused to attend last May's fight between Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and Amir Khan - which headlined the first ever boxing event at the newly constructed T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

During that time period, Trump was still campaigning and made certain statements that offended Mexicans and Muslims.

De La Hoya wanted Trump to witness an anticipated championship fight between a Mexican and Muslim.

De La Hoya was able to get Trump on phone - and the Golden CEO's invitation was rejected.

In an interview that was conducted in the early part of 2016, De La Hoya made certain comments that rubbed Trump the wrong way. At the time, De La Hoya claimed that he once played a game of golf with Trump - and Trump cheated during their game. A Trump representative would later deny De La Hoya's version of the story and claimed everything was fabricated.

"I tried to [invite Trump to the fight] with Canelo and Khan. I spoke with him on the phone three days before the fight, so that he could see a Mexican and a Muslim, two races that he had been criticizing and attacking. I wanted him to see that there was a Mexican and a Muslim in a well organized sporting event, where people are at peace and watching a fight without problems, and he did not want to attend," De La Hoya said.

"He said 'no'  - because before I spoke to him a story had come out where I said that Trump cheated when when we played golf, and then he heard about that and said he would not attend, but for me that was not the real excuse. He didn't want to attend, because he was going to be at an event where everyone would boo him."
