According to Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya, last Saturday's all-Mexican showdown between Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. did a very big number on HBO Pay-Per-View.

Canelo dominated Chavez Jr. over twelve rounds before a sold-out crowd at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The showdown had a lot of pre-fight hype, as the two boxers had been involved in a rivalry back in Mexico for at least ten years.

De La Hoya will have a better idea on the pay-per-view number on Thursday, when he meets with HBO.

Industry sources report that it did around 1 million buys. If that number stand true, it would become the first pay-per-view to do at least a million or more pay-per-view purchases since Mayweather-Pacquiao, which took place in 2015.

''The indications are very favorable, but we do not have the latest numbers yet. We expect a very high number, in terms of pay per view, and it's something we're going to know on Thursday, how many houses purchased the fight, when we hold a meeting with HBO," De La Hoya told ESPN Deportes.

Now Canelo will face WBC, WBA, IBF, IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin in the fall - in what is arguably the biggest fight in boxing.

De La Hoya expects a much bigger pay-per-view number for the fight with Golovkin.

"The fight is going to sell itself, because everyone knows about this fight. With the promotion that we are going to do, we are not planning to travel to many cities or countries," De La Hoya said.

"It is precisely after this interview that I'm going to Golden Boy's office here in downtown Los Angeles to organize everything related to press conferences and where they are going to take place. We've talked about New York, England, Los Angeles, but we still have to plan and confirm everything. "

"But the most important thing is that the fans will be the real winners. Because it's going to be an incredible fight. Because there has not been a fight like this for a long time - with someone like Golovkin who is undefeated, who has a lot of  power in his fists, great knockout ability - against someone like Canelo, who only has a single defeat on his record, which was against Floyd Mayweather. And since then I believe Saul has learned a lot as a boxer and he's been showing progress in each of his fights. In addition, Saul is also very strong and he's a fighter who wants to become the best. Definitely, a fight like this does not happen every day."
