According to a report in the Liverpool Echo, British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion David Price (13-0, 11KOs) has been sounded out for a fight on the upcoming Nelson Mandela Boxing Tribute on February 2nd 2013.

The former Olympic bronze medallist, who fights Olympic gold medal winner Audley Harrison in October in his first defense of his titles, has been given the chance to fight former world title challenger Michael Grant (48-4, 36KOs) on the bill in Cape Town, South Africa.

30,000 people are expected to attend the show, headlined so far by Chris Van Heerden’s IBO welterweight title defence against Matthew Hatton, with Evander Holyfield also understood to be fighting on the undercard.

Grant, 40, most famously utters the words ‘God bless you’ to his foes after the referee issues his instructions, although it had no effect when Lennox Lewis pummelled him in two rounds in his only world title bid in 2000.

The American has since lost just twice in ten years and would certainly be a small step up for Price, 29, as the giant Liverpudlian heads towards a possible world title chance himself in two years’ time.
