Eddie Hearn has challenge David Price to show he can be a big-stage contender when he fights in Cardiff on Saturday.

Price will take on Russian heavyweight Alexander Povetkin, on the undercard of Anthony Joshua's clash with Joseph Parker.

British fighter Price, 34, has fought and won only once since being stopped by Christian Hammer 13 months ago, when he considered retirement before appointing Derry Mathews as his new trainer, and he has been presented with the chance to revive his career.

Promoter Hearn said in Cardiff on Thursday: "What a heavyweight fight we have between David Price and Povetkin. A chance for Price to come out of the shadows."

Price added: "I carry the power, but I have also got an undulating skill set. I am going in there to give everything I have got.

"I am desperate to win. Losing is not an option. I need to embrace the occasion."

According to Price, he's placed additional pressure on himself - because the possibility of beating Povetkin, who is the WBA's mandatory challenger to Joshua, is a career-changer for him.

"There isn't pressure as far as what the public and boxing world expect going into this one, but there is always pressure from myself to perform," he said, speaking exclusively to Sky Sports.

"This is as big as it gets for me at the moment - this is like my world title fight. Povetkin is seen as probably the second best heavyweight around after Anthony Joshua so if I beat him, I've beat the man. Then, Joshua aside, people will want to beat the man who beat the man. It will open doors one way or another.

"This is why I'm in boxing, for big fights like this, I've been longing for this type of opportunity and thinking it will never come along. I don't need to overthink, I just need to go in and be David Price and if I can do that, I have a chance of pulling this off."
