David Navarro’s comeback from a surprising loss two years ago continued in successful fashion Friday night.

The featherweight from Hemet, California won his fourth fight in a row by defeating D’Angelo Fuentes unanimously on points in their six-rounder in Atlanta. DAZN streamed Navarro’s victory as part of the Albert Bell-Presco Carcosia undercard at OTE Arena.

Navarro (6-1, 3 KOs) mostly controlled the action, threw a lot of punches, landed various head and body shots and convincingly won their fight on all three scorecards. Judges Richard Sells (60-54) and Carl Williams (60-54) scored it a shutout for Navarro, who won four rounds according to judge Trae Webb (58-56).

Four fights earlier, a cut caused the highly touted Navarro to lose by sixth-round technical knockout to Mexican journeyman Diuhl Olguin (then 14-16-4) in March 2021. Navarro was winning that bout on all three scorecards at the time of the stoppage (50-45, 50-45, 49-46).

Fuentes (8-2, 5 KOs), of Coconut Creek, Florida, has lost two of his last three fights.

Navarro, 23, was clearly in control entering the final round of a bout Fuentes needed to win by knockout in the final three minutes.

A right hand by Navarro snuck around Fuentes’ left glove with just under 1:40 on the clock in the sixth round. Navarro caught Fuentes with a right uppercut in the opening minute of the sixth round.

Fuentes landed several overhand rights in the fifth round, but Navarro connected with several power punches of his own in the final minute of that round.

Navarro trapped Fuentes against the ropes late in the fourth round and unloaded numerous power punches on him. Navarro landed a hard left to Fuentes’ body 1:15 into the fourth round.

A left uppercut by Navarro made Fuentes retreat with just under a minute remaining in the third round.

Navarro nailed Fuentes with a right hand that backed Fuentes into the ropes with just under 30 seconds remaining in the second round.

A left hook by Navarro backed up Fuentes with less than 50 seconds to go in the second round. Fuentes’ overhand right connected less than 20 seconds into the second round.

Fuentes’ jab knocked Navarro off balance just before the bell sounded to end the opening round. Navarro’s right hand landed with about 1:05 to go in the first round.
