Golden Boy Promotions super lightweight prospect David Mijares (2-0) hopes to have a busy second half of the year.  For now he is scheduled to return to the ring on August 19th at the Belasco Theater in Los Angeles against an opponent to be determined.

After that fight Mijares hopes to get right back in the ring and continue his busy schedule.  The August fight will be Mijares' third since turning professional on the Canelo Alvarez-Amir Khan undercard in Las Vegas on May 7th.

"I am going to make sure I get my job done with no mess involved - no head butts, no cuts - because I just want to get back in there and do whatever Golden Boy and my management want me to do. I am just very excited to in the ring and put on a great performance," said Mijares.

The 20-year-old southpaw from Southern California has also gained valuable experience from sparring with champions and former champions.

He was in camp with former WBC super lightweight champion Viktor Postol to help him prepare for his unification bout against Terence Crawford.  Mijares said the experience was invaluable.

"That was very interesting. Postol has a very interesting style. I think he was taking his sparring partners a little too lightly. I was brought in to put pressure on him because I think they thought Crawford was going to put more pressure on him but he ended up boxing off the back foot. Postol is a really good fighter but Crawford was just too much for him.  It was a wonderful experience for me.  I was able to pick him brain and I learned a lot," Mijares stated.

Mijares also recently sparred at the Wild Card gym with WBA featherweight champion Jesus Cuellar.  He said that the Argentine is very strong but with a fight against orthodox fighter Abner Mares coming up, he probably won't spar with again in the near future.

"I was able to get in with Cuellar and boy he is strong, very, very strong. Now I understand how he has been able to just take these guys out. I don't know if I will be sparring him again since I am a southpaw. I think that Freddie (Roach) just wanted to mix it up a little bit," Mijares told BoxingScene.com.
