According to various reports, New Zealand cruiserweight David Light is recovering at an Auckland hospital after suffering a mild stroke, according to separate statements from his promoter and management team.

Light is said to have become unwell after returning to New Zealand following his twelve round decision loss to WBO cruiserweight champion Lawrence Okolie, which took place in Manchester on March 25.

Light felt fine after the fight. He began to feel unwell on April 5. An initial CT scan was clear, with no issues popping up. He was diagnosed with a delayed concussion and discharged.

After his symptoms continued, Light was admitted to Waitakere Hospital on April 17.

"A second CT scan was also clear. David then received a contrast CT scan, which revealed a blood clot," Light handlers explained in a statement.

Top Australian promotional company, No Limit Boxing, issued an update on Light's condition.

"No Limit Boxing is relieved to report that David Light is recovering in an Auckland hospital after suffering a mild stroke and undergoing clot retrieval surgery. We are closely monitoring David’s progress and recovery. We will continue to provide updates as they become available. We ask that everyone keep him, his family, coach and teammates in their thoughts during this time," the statement detailed.

Light feels very positive and expects to fully recover.

"This is like another fight camp for me, I've got to train hard, rehab and work on getting better,” Light said.
