Former two-time super middleweight champion David Benavidez will be front and center next Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, to support his older brother Jose Benavidez Jr.

Benavidez will take on former two division world champion Danny Garcia, who is moving up to the junior middleweight division to chase down another crown. The fight headlines a Showtime televised tripleheader.

Garcia will be fighting for the first time since December of 2020, when he was dominated over twelve rounds by welterweight champion Errol Spence.

Garcia will be looking to make a statement after losing two of his last four fights.

In the other corner, Benavidez will also be looking to make a statement - after fighting to a disappointing draw with Francisco Torres in November of last year. It was Benavidez's first bout in three years.

David Benavidez expects his brother to be a lot better in his second fight back, in a contest where a victory could potentially lead to a world title opportunity.

“My brother is a warrior and he’s a great fighter. He’s been a really great fighter ever since we were little kids and I can’t wait for him to show off his skills and talent," David Benavidez said.

“My brother and I get more nervous for each other’s fights than for our own fights. It’s going to be a great fight. This is a big opportunity for my brother and he’s been working really hard. A win in this fight can open the door for a world title and other huge fights for Jose.

“We’ve always give each other a lot of support throughout our careers. We’re older now and this is the moment that we always wanted to be at when we were younger. We’re fighting on the big stage and we’re really excited about where we’re going.”
