David Adeleye moved on with his burgeoning career as he captured his first belt in the paid ranks.

The heavyweight, from Ladbroke Grove in London, was headlining a Frank Warren-promoted show at the capital’s famous York Hall venue.

Adeleye, who appears to have come on leaps and bounds since being run close by Polish gatekeeper Kamil Sokolowski in what was just his sixth fight nearly two years ago, arguably looked the best he ever has to date, exclusively live on BT Sport, as he took out Ukraine’s Dmytro Bezus.

The vacant WBO European title in the sport’s premier division was at stake between the pair, but it was Adeleye who came out on top, stopping his man in the second round, with referee Bob Williams calling a halt to proceedings after one minute and 48 seconds of the second stanza.

A jab in the opening round saw the visiting Bezus hit the canvas, but a right hand, followed by the left hook, was the finishing combination in the second.

Meanwhile, Mark Chamberlain kept hold of his IBF European lightweight title with an inside-the-distance victory.

The Portsmouth puncher knocked out his opponent Vairo Lenti inside five rounds, with the unravelling of the Italian starting with him being rocked momentarily in the second round.

Nothing much else happened and it seemed like the fight was petering out into something of a non-event until a blistering counter-left-hook made its way from Chamberlain’s hand to the chin of Lenti, levelling him out on to the canvas.

The referee, Marcus McDonnell, didn’t even take up the count and immediately waved the fight over.

Chamberlain, with that emphatic display and victory, improves to 12-0 with eight quick finishes.

And Royston Barney-Smith stole the show with a first-round stoppage.

The Ben Davison-trained youngster is aiming to become Britain’s youngest world champion and is now five fights into his professional career.

Barney-Smith, nicknamed ‘Sugar Boy Roy’, was in against Lesther Lara over four scheduled rounds, but it took him just 67 seconds to dispatch of his foe with what appeared to be a jab to the body after a period of touching his man to the head to set up the shot.
