Dave Coldwell has been a mainstay of the British boxing scene for numerous years, having guided the likes of Tony Bellew and Jamie McDonnell to world titles whilst also managing a stable of fighters that include Jordan Gill and Atif Shafiq amongst others.

One of his charges comes in the form of former world champion Jamie McDonnell who returned to the ring recently in a victorious effort in Milan, Italy. Coldwell opened up on McDonnell's first fight since his loss to pound for pound superstar Naoya Inoue.

He said, "Jamie has a had a tough year, and I wasn't sure if he was going to fight again, but I was delighted to see him get through this camp and get rounds in the bank and enjoy being back in the ring.

"Jamie will be campaigning at super bantamweight and I believe that he has a lot to offer at that weight and I believe he can win a world title at that weight."

Coldwell also trains highly rated featherweight Jordan Gill and heavyweight mainstay Dereck Chisora and he gave his assessment on the pair as Gill begins preparation to return from his first loss and Chisora prepares for a clash with the tough Pole Artur Szpilka

The highly-rated Yorkshire trainer said, "Jordan's last fight will have done him the world of good as he will learn a lot from that experience. He is still the quality prospect that everyone was saying he was prior to the fight. He's learnt from it and I'm confident he's going to come back in a better fashion.

"Dereck Chisora has a tough fight and he has to be firing on all cylinders to win this fight. Szpilka gave Deontay Wilder a tough fight before he got caught so Dereck knows he has to be on the top of his game to get what I believe will be a very good win if he emerges victorious."

Alongside training and managing some of Britain's hottest prospects and established world level fighters, Coldwell also acts as an ambassador for the upstart Ultimate Boxxer series. Coldwell gave his assessment on the Ultimate Boxxer series as a whole.

The Rotherham based trainer said, "These tournaments are about excitement, sling some bombs, sharpshoot and create some entertainment. If you keep the matching right, Ultimate Boxxer is a brilliant format. The fighters to impress in these formats can really elevate a fighter's career.

"This is a different kind of event. It may not appeal to the purist boxing fans. Ultimate Boxxer is looking to reach a different audience. It has a different vibe with the music and the atmosphere. I enjoy the shows, I enjoy the format and they're fun nights."
