Cowboys Dance Hall, San Antonio, Texas - Junior welterweight prospect Darwin Price (11-0, 6KOs) stopped Javontae Starks (13-2, 7KOs) in the seventh round. Price is trained by Ronnie Shields.

It was very close fight for the first two rounds with a calculated chess match. In the third, a big counter by Price sent Starks down on the seat of his pants. He got up and seemed to be fine.

They went back to a boxing duel for the fourth round, with Price working the better jab. Starks picked things up in the fifth by getting more aggressive and seemed to push the tempo in the sixth as well.

During the seventh, Price rocked Starks with a big right and had him seriously hurt. Price continued to pound on him, pinned him in the corner and let his hands go until the referee waved off the contest.

Starks was coming off his first career defeat to Samuel Figueroa by eight round decision last October in Orlando, Florida.

In a battle of undefeated junior welterweight prospects, Kent Cruz (11-0, 6KOs) dropped and won an eight round unanimous decision over Rickey Edwards (11-1, 3KOs), who is trained by Ronnie Shields. The scores were 77-74, 77-73, 77-73.

Cruz dropped Edwards with an overhand right in the second to send him right down and he got up on wobbly legs. Edwards was able to survive until the incoming assault. Cruz controlled most of the action for the remainder of the fight and rocked Edwards several more times in the contest. At one point Shields threatened to stop the fight, but allowed Edwards to continue until the end.

Super bantamweight prospect David Perez (8-0, 4KOs) scored a scary one punch knockout of Gustavo Molina (23-13) in the sixth and final round.

Perez was too accurate and too strong for Molina, who found himself in trouble during the second round but fought his way out of trouble. During the third a two-punch combination sent Molina crashing down. Molina got to his feet and seemed to recover pretty well. Molina appeared like he was going to last the distance, but he took a massive right hand went down face first, out cold. The referee quickly waved off the contest and it took a little while to get Molina up and on a stool.

In a lightweight contest, Justin Pauldo (8-1, 4KOs), in his second fight with trainer Ronnie Shields, won a six round unanimous decision over Eric Anton (4-4, 1KO). Pauldo controlled the fight and showcased the better boxing skills, but never had Anton in serious trouble during the contest. All three judges scored 59-55.

Coming into this contest, Anton had lost his last three in a row after winning his first four bouts as a pro. Pauldo wins his third straight after losing a six round split decision last July to then unbeaten Efrain Cruz (lost a decision in July to Luis Olivares).
