Undefeated WBO European champion Darren Tetley says that he’s targeting a shot at the British title next year ahead of his return to the ring later this month.

Tetley returns to his home city of Bradford, his first bout there as a professional, and fights over six rounds at the Bradford Hotel, headlining the small hall card.

The 25-year-old won the regional WBO belt with a ninth-round stoppage of previously unbeaten Mason Cartwright on the Lee Selby vs Josh Warrington undercard at Elland Road back in May.

He says he now wants to fight for the prestigious Lonsdale title, currently held by Johnny Garton.

“I thought Gary Corcoran was going to win and be too strong down the finish against Garton,” Tetley told BoxingScene.

“But, Garton boxed brilliantly, showed he can fight and that he’s got a good chin. I went straight on Twitter and said that I wanted the winner, which is not something I usually do.”

“Tyrone (Nurse) is fighting (Liam Taylor) in a (British title) eliminator, so that’s looking less likely now.”

“I’d love to fight for the British title and I do believe that one day I will. It’s just about waiting and biding my time. Whoever’s got that British title, if I get offered it, that’s whoever I’m fighting, whether it be Tyrone, Taylor or Garton, I don’t care.”

The dream for Tetley is a bout at Valley Parade, the home of his beloved Bradford City. For now though his venue is the Bradford Hotel and he believes he can give back to his fans with this fight.

“I think that I should get a really good reception and that’s what I’m hoping for,” continued Tetley.

“To be able to fight in Bradford as the WBO European champion, it means a lot. It’s about giving back to my fans, who’ve gone to Leeds, Doncaster and Rotherham to support me.”

“It’s about giving something to people who can’t make it to those places. Hopefully, everybody enjoys their night, it’s a successful night for me and I can keep coming back in the future.”

“Hopefully, I can sell out Valley Parade one day, that’s the ultimate aim.”

Also featuring on the card are Bradford-born featherweight Amin Jahanzeb (2-0), cruiserweight Dan Garber (2-0), super-lightweight Jimmy First (4-0) and lightweight Zeeshan Khan (4-0). Leeds’ Jack Galley makes his professional debut whilst Vinny Atkins (4-1) of Halifax and Jacob Quinn (1-0) also enter the ring.
