Darius Fulghum might not consider himself a one-punch knockout artist, but that’s all he needed to get rid of Alan Campa on Saturday night.

The unbeaten super middleweight prospect kept his perfect record intact by knocking out Alan Campa with a body shot late in the first round at The Chelsea inside The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. A short left hook to the body by Fulghum knocked Campa to his side with 15 seconds to go in the first round of a scheduled eight-round bout on the Gilberto Ramirez-Joe Smith Jr. undercard.

Campa couldn’t even attempt to get up in time to beat referee Robert Hoyle’s count. The official time of the stoppage was 2:58 of the first round.

Fulghum, a registered nurse from El Paso, Texas, enhanced his record to 8-0 and produced his eighth knockout. Mexico’s Campa (18-9, 12 KOs, 1 NC) has lost by knockout or technical knockout five times during his 13-year pro career.

In the bout before Fulghum’s win, veteran underdog Jose Luis Sanchez upset junior middleweight prospect Eric Tudor by unanimous decision in an eight-rounder.

Sanchez regularly landed his right hand and did damage to the left side of Sanchez’s face that became noticeable by the fourth round. The swelling beneath Tudor’s left eye caused referee Raul Caiz Jr. and a ringside physician to monitor him closely throughout the second half of their bout.

Judges Tim Cheatham (78-74), Max De Luca (77-75) and Chris Flores (77-75) all scored their fight for Sanchez.

Albuquerque’s Sanchez improved to 14-3-1 (4 KOs). Tudor, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, slipped to 9-1 (6 KOs).

Tudor rocked Sanchez with a right uppercut about 50 seconds into the seventh round and briefly looked like he might avoid this upset defeat. Sanchez came back to drill Tudor with a right cross about a minute later, though, to continue pushing the young prospect.
